Guided walks

This walk starts from the car park next to the Langdon beck Hotel. The guide will be there from 9:30. The guide will provide whatever clothing and boots have been pre ordered. The route takes us along the Cow Green resevoir road, past mine workings and on to the road to the Dam and Birkdale. Along this road we can see the amazing Cow Green reservoir built to maintain the river Tees level at a constant height so that water can be extracted in Darlington for the town water works. Passing the dam the guide will describe its construction and what lays under the water. We will then scramble down the side of Couldron Snout one of the UK's largest waterfalls. We usually stop at the bottom of the falls to have lunch. We will follow the route of the Pennine way and depending on the pace of the walk and the weather we can take a number of different routes back to the Start point. The walk will take us throught some of the most beautiful countyside in the UK in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and past European Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The guide will point out interesting historical, and unique gological features that can be found along this walk. The walk is about 6 miles long, the group can extend it to 9 miles if the pace and weather are good.

Dogs on a lead are welcome on all of the walks but must be in control especially down the side of Couldron Snout.

On The Edge Activities reserve the right to cancel  the walk if the weather dictates. OTEA reserves the right to adjust the walk to the level of participants.
