Guided walks

This walk starts from the car pak at Bowlees visitor center. The guide will be there from 9:30 and will provide whatever clothing and boots have been pre ordered. We will walk along a track through the woods. Leaving the woods at the top and crossing the fell to a small valley the walk fords the stream and climbs to a gate heading towards a farm. Passing through the farm yard the route takes us accross a foot bridge past a small waterfall and heads towards a road accross a field. At the next farm the route follows a wall over the fell. A this point we will see some old mine workings on the hill side. At the end of the wall the route enters the large area of lead mining in Coldberyy gutter. How this was mined and the geology that created the minerals will be described by the guide. In the area there are some mine shafts and the guide will show you these and describe the activity that once went on in the area. Walking up the gutter to the trig point on Hardberry hill we will stop for lunch. From ths point on a clear day the view extends into 5 counties. The route then takes us from the fell down to a road and past a disused quarry. Entering a gorge we drop into the villiage of Nebiggin. From the viliage we return to Bowlees. The final part of the walk takes us along Bowlees beck to Gibson's cave where the guide will tell the story of the cave.  Returning back to the carpark for about 3 pm. During the walk there will be plenty of opportunities for photographs so bring a camera. In very wet conditions you can expect to get quite muddy. In this case the guide will try to select the route to stay away from the wost of it. This route is about 6½ miles long and climbs 250m overall.

Dogs on a lead are welcome on all of the walks On The Edge Activities reserve the right to cancel  the walk if the weather dictates. OTEA reserves the right to adjust the walk to the level of participants.
